According to 2019 Nielsen data, 73 percent of consumers say they want to reduce their impact on the environment, and 38 percent prefer buying beauty products that are sustainable. Beauty brands have gotten hip to the fact that if they’re going to thrive in the next decade, they’re going to need to put sustainability first, here's how.
1. Sustainable packaging. From being completely plastic free and using compostable packaging through to re-using ocean plastics and refillable beauty products, beauty brands will get more creative in the next decade.
2. Going waterless either by removing water from product formulations or reducing the amount of water used in manufacturing.
3. Being sustainable, for example creating scorecards to rank products on their sustainability practices, including manufacturing, sourcing, and packaging. Or allowing shoppers to easily identify key attributes of products using labels that call out different qualities, including whether a product is cruelty-free or biodegradable.
